Sean Wallace

Postdoctoral Research Associate

I grew up in East London, spent about 15 years living in New York, and now live in Essex. My undergrad was in Natural Sciences at University of Cambridge, followed by a PhD in Cell Biology from University College London, studying signaling pathways that control epithelial morphogenesis. I moved to New York during my PhD, and I stayed there for a postdoc at The Rockefeller University, studying the function of glial cells in the nematode C. elegans. I joined the Basant Group as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in 2024, where I am investigating the PRL (phosphatase of regenerating liver) family of dual-specificity phosphatases. PRL phosphatases are broadly expressed and highly conserved across evolution, and have been extensively implicated in development and cancer progression, but their molecular and cellular regulation are poorly understood. I am exploring how PRL phosphatases regulate the cytoskeleton in mammalian cell culture and C. elegans animal models. In my spare time I enjoy going for walks, meditating and sleeping as much as possible!
